This preliminary qualifying tournament for secondary schools are held across three days and are all T20 matches. These will take place on the 24th, 25th and 26th February. The participating schools are as follows :

The Secondary School Boys First XI Cup is the national secondary school competition for secondary school boys.
Regional qualifying tournaments and finals are held by each Major Association across New Zealand, with one team from each Major Association qualifying for the national tournament, held in December at Lincoln University.
The national finals consist of one-day cricket, played in a round robin format.
