The 2025/26 cricket season at Hagley Oval promises to be one of the biggest yet, with a full calendar of international and domestic fixtures bringing world-class cricket to the heart of Christchurch.
International cricket begins in October, when England visit for back-to-back T20 internationals. The excitement continues into November and December as the West Indies arrive for limited overs and Test action, giving fans the chance to see two of the game’s most entertaining sides up close.
The New Year belongs to the Super Smash, with Canterbury’s men’s and women’s teams set for a string of home fixtures before Hagley Oval takes centre stage once again by hosting both the Elimination Finals and the Grand Finals at the end of January. A full weekend of knockout T20 cricket will showcase the best talent in the country, with the Oval providing the perfect stage.
Then in March, the spotlight shines again as South Africa tour New Zealand. Hagley Oval will host a thrilling T20 international double-header featuring both the BLACKCAPS and the WHITE FERNS, as well as a One Day International between the White Ferns and South Africa – adding a fitting finale to an already packed season.
Alongside the international and Super Smash action, Hagley Oval will also play host to the full range of New Zealand’s domestic competitions. Matches in the Ford Trophy, Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, and Plunket Shield will bring Canterbury’s men’s and women’s teams onto their home ground throughout the summer. These fixtures not only give local fans more opportunities to see their provincial sides in action, but they also complete a truly full home schedule at Hagley Oval – from international blockbusters to the grassroots heart of New Zealand cricket. Suzanne Pearce, the Executive Manager for the Canterbury Cricket Trust,
“It’s a big win, not only for the city but the wider Canterbury region. It’s a chance for our fans to see the best players in the country play some awesome cricket and for those young players coming through to be inspired.”
From international thrillers under lights, to the intensity of Super Smash Finals Weekend, to the enduring traditions of New Zealand’s premier domestic competitions, Hagley Oval will be the stage for a summer full of highlights and unforgettable moments.
