Who we are

Hagley Oval is managed by the Canterbury Cricket Trust (CCT) who work alongside key stakeholders to maintain and operate this world class asset for the benefit of Christchurch City and our community.

Canterbury Cricket Trust

The Canterbury Cricket Trust is a registered charitable trust formed specifically for the long-term benefit of cricket in Canterbury.

CCT works closely with Canterbury Cricket association (CCA) but operates independently from it. The Canterbury Cricket Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees with our operations managed by a small team led by it’s Executive Manager. The members of the Board are all prominent businesspeople who share a love of cricket and have the ability to drive and realise a vision for the future of one of our regional and national sports.

CCT is responsible and/or has significantly contributed to the major projects of the Hagley Oval Precinct including the development of Hagley Oval, the construction of the Hadlee Pavilion, installation of the Hagley Oval lights and the construction of the Sir Richard Hadlee Sports Centre, located behind the Hadlee Pavilion.

The first major project the Canterbury Cricket Trust was involved in, was raising funds for the Hagley Oval Foundation back in 2012/2013, to establish this international-standard quality ground. The success of this project has provided a permanent home for Canterbury Cricket and has enabled Christchurch to play host to prestigious international matches since it’s opening while establishing itself as the best cricket ground in New Zealand.

The Trust has raised over $20 million since 2014 for all the completed projects which has come from private donors, sponsors and funding grant organisations ensuring the facilities were debt free on opening, with the exception of an amount owing from the Lights installation which CCT continues to repay.

Supporting our Community

Supporting organisations in our community is a key part of who we are at the Canterbury Cricket Trust. We believe in using the unique platform of Hagley Oval to make a meaningful difference beyond the boundary, and we’re proud to give back in ways that create connection, provide support, and offer moments of joy to those who need them most.

Each year, we partner with a charity to host a dedicated Charity Match at Hagley Oval, providing the opportunity for fundraising and awareness through a memorable day of cricket. In addition, our in-season charity programme invites a number of organisations to experience cricket in the Miles Group Members Lounge. These passes are gifted directly to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances. For many, a day at the cricket offers a welcome escape, a chance to create positive memories, and a reminder that they’re supported by a wider community.

Alongside this, we also run our Community Support Programme, where schools, sports clubs, and local organisations can apply for assistance to support their own fundraising efforts. Each year, we are proud to contribute by providing items for raffles and auctions, helping these groups raise vital funds for their important work. It’s another way we’re able to strengthen our connection to the wider community and support the causes that make a real difference locally.

Get Involved

Volunteering with the Canterbury Cricket Trust is a great way to be part of something special at Hagley Oval. As a small team, we often have projects and initiatives that we’d love to progress but don’t always have the capacity to move forward—this is where volunteers can make a real impact. From lending a hand with admin or event preparation, to helping bring new ideas to life, there are plenty of ways to contribute behind the scenes.
During the season, we also have casual work opportunities available from time to time for those keen to get involved on match days. If you’re passionate about cricket, community, or just want to be part of a great team, we’d love to hear from you.

If you’re interested in volunteering or learning more, we’d love to hear from you.
