Our Grounds

Accessing the Grounds

In addition to Hagley Oval, the wider Precinct includes several grounds used for training, community, club and junior matches, festival cricket and events. These grounds – Nursery, Polo, Christ College and Hagley Corner, are all located within the South Hagley Park area and are just a short stroll from the main Hagley Oval.

Nursey Ground

Located adjacent to the Sir Richard Hadlee Sports Centre and Hagley Oval’s outdoor training nets, the Nursery Ground is often referred to as the “mini” Hagley Oval. It is easily accessible from both Riccarton Avenue and Hagley Avenue, with metered council parking available behind the Hadlee Pavilion, and free on-street parking along Hagley Avenue.

If entering via the Hadlee Pavilion carpark, follow the path past the main entrance of the Sir Richard Hadlee Sports Centre, then continue around the back of the building. From there, follow the perimeter fencing of the training nets, which will lead you directly to the boundary of the Nursery Ground.

Hagley Corner Grounds

The wickets at Hagley Corner, formerly known as Hospital Corner, are an important part of Christchurch’s cricketing footprint. Featuring a mixture of grass and artificial wickets, nestled at the southern edge of Hagley Park, these well-maintained pitches provide valuable playing and training space for clubs, schools, and development squads. Their location and quality make them a popular choice throughout the season, offering a reliable surface in a central city setting. With a long-standing connection to community cricket, Hagley Corner continues to play a key role in nurturing participation and passion for the game across all levels. In the Winter months, Hagley Corner features a number of Football fields for school competitions.

Hagley Corner Grounds

Polo Grounds

Previously known as Hospital Corner, the Hagley Corner Grounds are located on the eastern side of South Hagley Park, near the intersection of Riccarton Avenue and Hagley Avenue and is directly opposite Christchurch Hospital. A well-used space for junior and school cricket, the grounds provide a convenient and central setting within walking distance of the city.

Free off-street parking is available along both Riccarton Avenue and Hagley Avenue. Visitors can also park behind the Hadlee Pavilion, where metered council parking is available. From there, simply cross the footbridge over the stream and follow the internal park pathway to reach the Hagley Corner Grounds. The grounds are easily accessible from multiple entry points and are clearly visible from the roadside.

Christ College Grounds

Located within South Hagley Park, within the peripheral of the wider Hagley Oval Precinct, several wickets, adjacent to the Polo Grounds are used to accommodate school fixtures.
