What can I bring with me?

Yes you can however this must be able to be folded down. No inflatable chairs or bean bags are permitted. For full deck chairs these are permitted to be used at the top of the embankment only so not to impede the view of other spectators. Low chairs such as beach chairs are permitted on the embankment.

Yes but only small amounts of non-commercial food intended for personal consumption.

General Admission tickets provide you access to the Grass Embankment. In line with our village green feel, there is no fixed seating on the embankment. However general admission ticket holders are welcome to bring a picnic blanket or a cushion to sit on. On certain match days, there may be hospitality seating options which you can purchase.
 
For most ticketed matches, Guest Passes to the Miles Group Lounge in the Hadlee Pavilion will be available to purchase, subject to availability. Hadlee Pavilion Guest Passes provides access to seating in the Hadlee Pavilion stand.
There is no parking on site during ticketed match days. There are surrounding paid parking options nearby and some off street parking available on Deans Avenue. This is first in first served and not guaranteed.
 
On non ticketed match days (Plunket Shield, Ford Trophy, Hallyburton Johnstone Shield), there is parking some onsite parking available. However this is run and monitored by the Christchurch City Council and has a maximum parking time of 3 hours.

Gates typically open 1 hour before International matches and 30 minutes before ticketed Domestic matches. However this can change depending on the match and if the match is sold out or not. We recommend you follow our social media channels to keep up to date with key Match Day information.

Yes you can. You just need to make sure you inform security on the gate that you are coming back and get your ticket scanned on they way out otherwise it wont let you scan back in.

The following items are not permitted in the Venue and will be confiscated:

  • Alcohol not purchased at the Venue.
  • Animals with the exception of guide dogs.
  • Drink containers with broken seals not purchased at the Venue.
  • Drink containers larger than 1.5 litre.
  • Aerosol cans, glass bottles and any breakable container.
  • Illicit drugs.
  • Bean bags or inflatable chairs.
  • Dangerous items/weapons – including, but not limited to knives, flares, fireworks and laser pointers.
  • Skateboards, roller blades, roller skates, scooters and bicycles.
  • Umbrellas within public seated/embankment areas.
  • Sound amplifying devices including whistles, loudhailers, air horns or similar devices.
  • Musical instruments unless pre-registered with Event Management Staff.
  • Prams and strollers within public seated/embankment areas.
  • Hard chilly bins and/or picnic hampers.
  • Flags, banners, etc. that may, at the sole discretion of the Event Management Staff, be considered too large or contain profanity or messages that could be deemed offensive. In all cases flag poles must be limited in length to no more than one hand width wider than the associated flag/banner.
  • Photographic, video or audio recording equipment for any purpose other than private non-commercial purposes, which may include, without limitation, video and/or audio recorders, camera tripods, monopods, selfie sticks or lenses with a total focal strength of greater than 200mm and commercial digital video equipment. The Event Management Staff will, at their sole discretion, determine whether or not an item is intended for personal or commercial use.
  • Any other item which the Event Management Staff (at their sole discretion) deems to be a prohibited item which may be a danger to, or inconvenience any other patron.

The following items are permitted in the Venue:

  • Sealed plastic bottles (up to 1.5 litre in size) containing non-alcoholic beverages for personal consumption.
  • Empty plastic bottles (up to 1.5 litre in size) to be filled using water provided at the Venue.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage cans however these will be depressurized at the Gate on entry to the Venue.
  • Small amounts of non-commercial food intended for personal consumption.
  • Soft chilly bags smaller than 20L.
  • Deck chairs – to be used in the designated areas only.
  • Prams and strollers within designated areas.
  • Thermos flasks for test matches only. Flasks are PROHIBITED for all ODI’s and T20 matches.
Any child under the age of 15 is eligbale for a childs ticket. Anyone 16 and over must purchase a adult ticket. Children 0-4 years old are free with a paying adult.
 
This differs for Hadlee Pavilion Memberships where children are 14 years and under.

General Admission Refunds for abandoned matches due to weather are determined by either Canterbury Cricket Association for Domestic Matches or New Zealand Cricket for International Cricket and follow the below criteria.

Domestic Super Smash Matches:
Refunds will only be provided if there is no completed fixture (a total of 15 overs are bowled or a result is achieved) across the Super Smash round.
 
If one or other fixture of a double header is deemed to be complete then no refund is available.
 
Refund breakdown (*Less any applicable venue & ticket levies.)
  • Fewer than a total of five (5) overs are completed, without a result. Refund Entitlement: 100% refund*
  • Between five (5) and fourteen (14) overs in total are completed, without a result. Refund Entitlement: 50% refund*
  • A total of fifteen (15) or more overs are completed, without a result. Refund Entitlement: No refund
International Matches:

Canterbury Cricket Trust will refund Hadlee Pavilion Guest Passes if a match has been abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled. It will also refund guest passes for Days 4 and 5 of a test match when the test match is completed by Day 3. Refunds will not be provided for a match that commences and is stopped, then subsequently cancelled due to rain.

All patrons and their possessions may be subject to a search prior to being granted entry into the Venue, this may include the use of a handheld security wand. Any refusal to be searched will result in denied entry to the Venue.

Yes they are but only in the designated family areas. Prams and strollers are not permitted within public seated/embankment areas.

Where are the public toilets in the Hagley Oval Precinct?

There are 3 public toilets located in the Hagley Oval Precinct.

  • Hadlee Pavilion – Located in the main carpark underneath the Hadlee Pavilion.
  • Hagley Corner – Located on the grass at the Hospital end of Hagley Park, near the bridge that crosses the river opposite Hagley Oval.
  • Polo Grounds – Located next to the Southwestern corner of the Polo Grounds closest to Deans Avenue.
The Hadlee Pavilion can be booked for private events outside of the days leading up to, during and immediately following match days.

Private tours of Hagley Oval, Hadlee Pavilion and the Sir Richard Hadlee Sports Centre can be arranged by emailing contact@hagleyoval.co.nz

Outside of ticketed match days, Hagley Oval is open to the public however the Sir Richard Hadlee Sports Centre and Hadlee Pavilion are not manned all the time and viewings need to be prearranged.

There is plenty of paid off street parking which is run and monitored by the Christchurch City Council. Parking is availble in the carpark along Riccarton Avenue and in the main carpark outside the Hadlee Pavilion / Hagley Oval.
 
The parking directly in front of the Sir Richard Hadlee Sports Centre is reserved for users of the Sports Centre.

There are multiple security cameras located around certain parking areas of the Hagley Oval Precinct. There are also security cameras that face onto Hagley Oval. If you require assistance in locating security footage please contact us on contact@hagleyoval.co.nz and we will try our best to assist you.

We cannot guarantee that we will have what you are looking for or be able to locate the footage requested. All security footage is saved off site and requires a third party to analyse and download this for you. There may be charges involved to locate the footage you require.
